Pining for a Government Gig

Dear Governor Blagojevich,

I understand that you are in the unique position, for at least the next few days, to appoint someone to fill the seat left vacant by President Elect Barack Obama and, at this time, you have not yet made your selection.  I would like to have my name added to the list of possible candidates; candidate six, if you will.

Here’s what I’m prepared to offer:

  • 1 McDonald’s Arch Card with a balance of $11.83
  • Lifetime rights to ride shotgun (my car only)
  • A mix CD of my favorite songs, with track titles neatly printed on front
  • 1 case of Diet Mt. Dew (only 11 cans)
  • 1 1987 Poison tour t-shirt
  • $27.19 in cash

Please let me know soon as I feel this may be an opportunity of limited duration for us both.

Thank you for your consideration,

Jeremy

A new blog to not update

I’ve launched a second blog that will focus only on music. I’ll duplicate posts here from time to time but not often so if you’re interested you should check it out. Eventually a link will appear in the pages section of the page, unti then you can find it with the links to other blogs.

No Pants?

Back in college Rob used to hold a weekly event during the old Wednesday night South Park / Man Show line up. Girls were welcome to stay for South Park but were made to leave during the closing credits because for those thirty minutes a week, at Rob’s house at least, pants were optional.

I was reminded of this by a text message Rachel sent me today

Sitting at McD’s playground, a mom just jumped up and ran into the structure, yelling at her son to “put his pants back on this instant.”

Along those same line, the good folks over at Improve Everywhere do an annual Subway No Pants. That’s the underground trains, not the sandwich shops…that’d be weird.

Sunday Sampler

I know I’ve been no more reliable about posting these days, other than short rants about how I’m trying to upgrade the software. Anyway…

While poking around the web tonight I discovered a web comic written by comedian Scott Meyer, Basic Instructions. Like most of the humor I point out, it is pretty dry stuff. I can’t say everyone will like it.

Here are a few some I really enjoyed.

Minor Frustration

On old Wordpress software insert button in link pop-up window was on left, in new Wordpress software the cancel button is on the left.

Updated theme

After many failed attempts at getting a new theme to do what I wanted it to do I decided that I actually didn’t mind keeping my theme, I was just tired of the color pallet, so I just changed it.  The original author was from Spain which meant most static material to the theme was in Spanish; I think I’ve finally managed to get the last of that purged with the latest edits. If you see any I’ve missed, let me know.

I’ve also added a few new features. There’s a “Wall” that works much like the core Facebook feature, a random post link and a login on the main page.

I’ll also soon be launching another site devoted just to music with links to videos and streaming audio sites.

I don’t think there will be any significant changes made again in the near future. I’ll try to focus on posting.

Upgrade Complete

I somehow managed to get the software upgrade tonight. The only thing that got lost along the way was the categories. I’m going to try to get those back too.

The upgrade allows me to post videos which I was unable to do with the older versions of WordPress. We’ll see what else it can do in the coming days.

I Miss Rich

If you went to church in the nineties then you’ve no doubt sung at least one Rich Mullins song. If you were really lucky you went to one of his concerts. I got to see him twice. Once with Greg and Rebeca Sparks along with an entire church youth group, Beaker and assorted musician friend’s of his and the second time with just Beaker. Both times were one of the best concert experiences of my life.

Tonight I found an entire show on YouTube. It comes close to capturing what it was like to be there, to see him live.  To make it even better the set list is really good.  Almost all my favorite songs are included.  If you decide to watch them all be warned, part nine is missing and a lot of the cuts take place in the middle of songs.  You can buy the DVD here.

Here’s part one.

Oops.

I tried to upgrade the site software last night. It ended badly and a lot of posts were lost.  I have a backup that I’ll eventually try to get uploaded.  This is lame.
