The Many Adventures of Cactus

Many moons ago when I was a student at Lee University I used to go for a walk to Deer Park each day. The main path between my dorm at the park took me past an abandoned house with a four feet tall cement cactus on the porch. After thinking of the cactus for a few months I decided that it would be mine.

I don’t know how many of you have ever tried to move a solid cement object before but I can tell you they are rarely light. Cactus was no diffrent. Though the original plan called for me carrying him all the way back to campus I ended up going to get my car and driving him back.

School ended and I went home and cactus went with me. When I moved back to Cleveland cactus once again came along and stood proudly on my front porch. This is where the story really starts. One morning I stepped outside and noticed that Cactus was gone!

A few months later things got interesting. Strange letters started appearing in my mailbox stuffed with photos of cactus all over the place. The letter sometimes had details as to what Cactus had been up to others were just letters. I’ve posted the photos below along with some details as to what’s what.

Water Games

Back in my Lee U. days some friends took part in a large scale role playing game they loving called, “The Game”.? Basically they purchased a lot of Nerf guns, divided up into families and had an old-style mob war that spanned the entire community – no place was off limits.

Though I didn’t ever play I did always think the concept was great and was sort of envious of all the fun they were having.? It looks like I may get another chance.? The Cool Hunter posted a story about groups in L.A., San Fransisco, Vancouver and New York have been starting an assasination based game using water pistols.? Once the game begins you get the name, photo, address and telephone number of your target.? You kill them and you get the name of their target and move on.? The game continues until you kill someone who has your information.? Sounds like fun.

Thanks, No.

We all have those people who send us junk email, wasting our time and for those of us without gmail, storage space.? I’m not talking SPAM here, SPAM only takes a bit of personal responsibility to control.? I’m talking about friends and family.? The daily jokes and chain letters people always seem to spend their first three years on-line sending.

My friend Scott sent a very legal sounding letter that in the end demanding payment for the time spent reading the email as well as demanding payment for the drafting of a response.? The good folks at Thanks, No offer a much nicer solution.

Brits just don’t get the mountain music

A group of hippies dedicated to keeping the summit of the UK highest peak, Ben Nevis, litter free were on one of their trash patrols when they spotted an unusual piece of refuse, an upright piano.

The piano was located just 200 meters from the peak of the 2400 feet summit and seemed to be complete except for the missing keyboard. Though no one knows how or when it was taken there, a cookie wrapper with a use by date in 1986 was found under the piano which researchers are using as a measure of how long its been there.

Guardian Unlimited

Update:

The Telegraph states this is actually an organ brought up by one Kenny Campbell, a Scotish woodcutter, while Michael Felman’s show Saturday claimed it was by a group of rubbish removes.? In either case it was said to be for charity.

OhGizmo, a popular gadget blog, has a short entry about a remarkable new product. This toilet paper dispenser actually prints rss feeds directly onto the TP to give you something fresh to read each time. Not only does it print but the thing weighs each visitor and gives them their own custom feed.

The PBS Kids website has a really good puzzle based on a Rube Goldberg machine. It’s pretty simple but still sort of fun if you’re good and bored.

Josh Hamilton

I’ve been a fan of Josh Hamilton for a long time, every since I saw him in With Honors. One of my favorite films he’s done was The House of Yes, an odd little indie film staring Mr. Hamilton, Parker Posey, Freddie Prinz Jr. and for some reason Tori Spelling.? I won’t go very far into it other than to say the plot involves incest between twins, Josh Hamilton’s Marty and Parker Posey’s Jackie.

On the first Law and Order CI tonight Josh Hamilton played the part of the killer. His motive was to protect his little brother from being discovered as an arsonist.? The little brother’s motive was to get revenge for the truth of his origins, namely that his brother, Josh Hamilton, was actually his father.

So…what is it with Josh Hamilton and incest roles?
