Silvio Berlusconi quotes

The Italians had an election this week where they barely managed to vote out their crazy Primie Minister Silvio Berlusconi.? Though he’s still refused to concede, in the end he’ll no doubt leave office.? For those of you who don’t follow world politics here’s a run down.

Berlusconi is the worlds 25th richest person with an estimated 12 billion US dollars.? He helped found the Center-right party which won a majority in the 1994 elections just a few months after the party came into being.? He was elected Prime Minister but failed to hold his government together but was elected again in 2001.

Fun in the bureaucracy

I work for a top five-customer service firm and it probably goes without saying we have about a million policies that guide almost every task we do. Everything from the way we interview and hire to our processes for providing feedback and terminating employment is outlined in close to 150 documents.? We even have a guy, Mike, who checks our compliance with these policies.

A few weeks ago I was forced to end an agent’s employment. I completed a request for permission to terminate, had my manager sign off on the request that’d already been approved by people who rank higher than him and, after letting the poor guy go, ran the final paperwork including an form requesting his HR file be closed out, a checklist to say I filled out that form and an automated script that included the same information that I’d just put onto the original form. Best Wise Crack Ever

Sin comentarios »

b3ta.com has a collection of what they call heckles but I think are more accurately descirbed as wise cracks, as heckles are generally directed at performers.

There is some of that, but they aren’t the best ones. The best ones are those that come from no where, from a stranger. My favorite was submitted by a fellow named Furnes. I’ve taken the liberty of reprinting it below. Seguir leyendo »

Name closeness

Those who know me have probably heard me rant about couples whose names are very close to one another’s in either spelling, pronunciation or pretty much anything. Erin and Aaron shouldn’t really be friends, let along date. Eric and Erica should not marry and have little babies to assign silly names to.

Now, being named Jeremy I’ve always thought I was pretty safe. I’d banned Jennifers due to my sister being one of those and having a bad experience with one back in high school. (Shout out to the Putz!) But today I stumbled across a girl name Jeremia.

Well I’ve never heard this name before, I’m pretty sure the poor girl’s mom made it up on the spot, and I’ll probably never hear it again. But just in case, all you Jeremia’s out there take note: We, you and I, are not going to get married. We’re not going to date and probably shouldn’t speak. It’s not you, it’s your name.

And while we’re at it. Don’t name your kid something that rhymes with their last name. It’s not cute, trust me its not.

I have been toying with some ideas for another blog and was checking on some domains when I decided to swing by jeremy.com and have a look see.

Now I’ve been to jeremy.com many times in the past. Though I can’t recall the details of the site’s evolution I do recall it went from a basic, and dare I say tacky, basic html site to an ecomerce site (ole Jeremy looking to make a few bucks) and now it seems to be a rather popular fan site for Jakks Pacific WWE action figures. Is this the lamest incarnation yet? Seguir leyendo »

I need more USB ports

Wired.com has a great gallary of the most obsurb USB devices ever created.? My favorites are the Barbie flash drive and the humidifier.? Why someone would install a device designed to spray water on your computer all day is beyond me.

So last week at work I was given a little project. Actually it was a huge project. I was put in charge, more or less, of screening, prepping, testing, training and coaching a new department that would wield incredible power. I ran around all week long, not only getting everything ready to go but also dealing with my own team and their impending transfer to a new supervisor. Seguir leyendo »

More Louie, Louie?

An earlier post referred to ‘Louie, Louie’, the classic song by The Kingsmen. This song is the subject of Todd Snider’s ‘The Ballad of The Kingsmen’, probably one of the best songs about music ever written.Check out the lyrics:

I found a web site today that strives to answer some of life’s tough questions. My personal favorites are the real words to Louie, Louie, and a farting Frenchmen.

After a few days of playing around with the new page we’ve finally decided on the current layout. Let us know what you think.

There are also a couple of new features. You can register for the site? and the archive is now in a calendar format as well as the monthly list. I’ve also added a ‘first time’ here page to get you started if this is your first visit.
