I spoke with my friend Melanie last night. She says she has lots of photos of the cactus incident that I’ve never seen. She says she’ll make copies. If she does I’ll post them here. I also found a few more things from the story that I need to post – an email and a newspaper clipping.

Here’s my new catchphrase: “Well, monkeys are pretty forgiving.”

I’ve reunited with a long lost friend, S-h. I’d forgotten how much fun she is. Her new catch phrase is “Foods Papa.”

That’s it.

Many moons ago when I was a student at Lee University I used to go for a walk to Deer Park each day. The main path between my dorm at the park took me past an abandoned house with a four feet tall cement cactus on the porch. After thinking of the cactus for a few months I decided that it would be mine.

I don’t know how many of you have ever tried to move a solid cement object before but I can tell you they are rarely light. Cactus was no diffrent. Though the original plan called for me carrying him all the way back to campus I ended up going to get my car and driving him back.

School ended and I went home and cactus went with me. When I moved back to Cleveland cactus once again came along and stood proudly on my front porch. This is where the story really starts. One morning I stepped outside and noticed that Cactus was gone!

A few months later things got interesting. Strange letters started appearing in my mailbox stuffed with photos of cactus all over the place. The letter sometimes had details as to what Cactus had been up to others were just letters. I’ve posted the photos below along with some details as to what’s what.

Chattanooga’s river front has a series of dance steps built into the side walk. This was just in front of the Mud Pie.

Cactus with a guitar on the walking bridge.

At Ruby Falls. As are the next two.

As I said, Cactus is heavy. The girls who took him dropped him when he went to the walking bridge. Luckily Sunny’s mom was a nurse and fixed him up. The next one is from the hospital too.

After Sunny and friends returned him he was once again returned to his spot out front. A bit later he was gone again. I eventually found him in my friend Sandra’s apartment. Here are the photos she took.
